Japanese artist Shimabuku – who won the Mutina award This Is Not a Prize in 2019 – has designed a special ceramic artwork on the occasion of his first solo exhibition in Italy: Shimabuku. Me, We, at Museion Bolzano (open to visitors until September 3rd 2023).
The sculpture titled Moon and Potato has been produced by Mutina with the support of Ceramica Gatti. The work represents a visual dialogue between two apparently different objects which Shimabuku has unexpectedly put in relation to each other. The ceramic edition is part of a group of works in which the artist explores the interactions between the outer and inner dimensions of the self.
Shimabuku’s cross-media art proposes a curious, light-hearted, humorous approach to experiencing the world. His works derive from private moments of amazement, such as an idea, a long-awaited encounter, or a poem. Shimabuku portrays the affinity that links animals, landscapes, stories, ideas and people, at the same time revealing unexpected, fleeting moments of sharing and reflection.
